The positive aspects of donning lightweight running shoes are assorted and multiple. Above all when running a run of any length a weight aberration of only a few ounces can make you run significantly faster. For training runs a lighter shoe is obviously going to make things much easier. Certainly, there are downsides to putting on super lightweight shoes that I'll examine, but over all lightweight running shoes are the best!

In racing, any narrow control you can get over your challengers will be a perk. It doesn't matter if it's a track meet, an off-road race, or a marathon, the weight of your shoes will play a major role in how your finishing time. A lightweight shoe will give you extra energy and will provide a mental benefit by making your feet feel like walking on clouds. Making the change to a lighter race shoe is an excellent way to slice a few seconds off your personal record race times.

In your regular runs, a lightweight shoe can also be helpful. Think of your hardest workout of the week. It's probably a speed activity of some kind, maybe mile repeats? Yeah, now imagine that run with lighter shoes. You'll be running lighter and speedier than you can imagine with a fresh pair of lightweight running shoes.

Most of the really lightweight running shoes don't support your feet too well. So, if your feet have a tendency to over or under pronate, you'll need to confirm you're still sporting a shoe that will allot some amounts of support. The worst thing that could happen is getting an injury because you sported the incorrect shoe.

My suggestion? Get a perfect set of racing shoes distinct to the sort of races you participate in. You'll probably desire spikes of some kind for a track meet, while a wide range of shoes are available for longer road races. For your long distance training runs, you'll have the inclination to be sure you've bought a good combination of great support without adding a lot of bulk. Your speed workouts are a toss-up. You may want to get some super-lightweight training shoes specifically for that purpose, or you could just put on your regular trainers. It's totally a matter of personal preference.
