About club

The South Hudson Spiked Shoe Club came into existence in 1980. It was the South Hudson Running Club who picked up the charter of the Jersey Spiked Shoe Club. The president was Al Bundies, who at the time was commissioner of the A.A.U., which is now known as the U.S.A.T.F. Our list of 125 members range from ages 17 to 80. They are competitive runners, health conscious joggers, and walkers. We participate in team events, such as the 92 mile River to Sea Relay Race, Track and Field events, and of course, the popular road races everyone anxiously awaits for on the weekends. But no matter what each individual's ability is, everyone is treated with equal respect. If you want to do speed work or just go out for an easy run, you can always find a partner to run with. In the past few years we've also hosted our own race, "Run To The Future", which helped raise donations for local charities. Our monthly fun run is open to everyone. It takes place in scenic Stephen M. Gregg Park in Bayonne. The park is situated on Bayonne's waterfront with paved paths throughout. It boasts a beautiful duck pond with willow trees on its' shore. There is a long footbridge that spans across an inlet along the shore. SHSSC is not only geared to sports and running. We also have a number of social events. Our annual wine and cheese party, where everyone brings a cheese platter, a bottle of wine or some kind of dessert, is a big hit. There is also the tour of Manhattan establishments. The club also gets discounted theater tickets for Broadway plays. It's these qualities that, I believe, make our club unique. We meet once a month, on the first Wednesday. The yearly dues are $12.00, except for the first year, which is $15.00 and includes a free club T-shirt. Nicholas V. Puja President. Mailing address: SHSSC P.O. Box 1058 Bayonne, NJ 07002-1058
